Hologram Jesus and other lies.
There's nothing new about outright lies. There have always been folks who spread lies about Jesus. Whether well meaning or not, whether directly motivated by The liar or not, some folks get the story wrong and yet spread it nonetheless. For example, the Gnostics were philosophical intellectuals who held great sway in the first centuries after Jesus' ascension. Because their philosophy embraced a dualistic view of the universe ( there's physical stuff, which is bad, and spiritual stuff, which is good ). they couldn't accept that Jesus was God and in a human body. The idea of the God- man created a tension in their worldview that just made them shiver. So they relieved that tension by dropping the man part. This teaching about Jesus actually started to catch on. Now, it just wasn't true. Jesus was human. His body was real. And there are many texts in the New Testament that guarantee as much. Nonetheless, this Gnostic teaching caught on. And folks' image of Jesus eroded a bit. And the liar grinned and chuckled. And thus it is. In every age there are going to be influential people who, for whatever reason, put forth wrong ideas about Jesus. In our own day this remains true. For example, the idea of the God-man remains offensive. Some folks these days try to ease that tension by droppingthe God part.
